Obligation to follow Qur’aan
Qur’aanic Verse 28:85:
Transliteration:
85. Inna allathee farada AAalayka alqur-ana laradduka ila maAAadin qul rabbee aAAlamu man jaa bialhuda waman huwa fee dalalin mubeenin
Translation:
85. Indeed! He Who has made the Qur’an obligatory13 on you will surely bring you (Muhammad) back home. Say, “My Lord knows who brings guidance and who is in delusion manifest.”
Study Note:
13. Obligation to follow Qur’aanic instructions is inherently imposed here on Prophet Muhammad (peace on him), and through him on his Ummah. No such obligation is imposed anywhere in the Qur’aan to follow any other book. This Verse was obviously revealed when the Prophet was forced to leave his home town Mecca under pressure of intense persecution from his co-inhabitants there.
