Quick Tip
Blain asks:
Every time I open Internet Explorer 9, a message pops up at the bottom of the screen, telling me to Manage add-ons, which I’ve already done. Can you tell me how to get rid of this message?
A common complaint about IE9 is the message below, which appears at the bottom of the screen, even if add-ons have been previously set. For information on managing IE add-ons, click here.
kevin_disabled_add-ons_ie_1
If your add-ons are already managed the way you like, and this message continues to pop up, your IE shortcut may be the cause of the problem. That is to say that your shortcut may be taking you to a version of IE prior to your changes. Mine was. To solve this problem, delete the existing desktop shortcut, find IE in the Start menu, and right-click. From the Send To menu, click Desktop (create shortcut).
For easier access, it can be dragged to the Quick Launch Bar (optional).
kevin_disabled_add-ons_ie_2
In Windows 7, you can also use the Pin to Taskbar option. Click here for details.
Thanks for the question, Blain.

Whether You've Been to Too Many Heavy Metal Concerts...
Or Age is FINALLY Catching Up to You...
ONE THING'S FOR CERTAIN: YOU CAN'T HEAR LIKE YOU USED TO!
You Need the Hear Clear Sound Amplifiers!
Stylish, Discreet & Powerful - Amplify Sound up to 60 Feet Away!
Pocket Sized - Hip Clip - Comfortable Earbuds - Amazing Quality!
GET A TWO PACK FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!

Perfect for Church & Public Events OR Just Around the House!

Speak UP Sonny...I Can't Hear You!
Hearing is a funny thing. We take it for granted when we're young and sorely miss it when it starts to fade. Of the many, many reasons our hearing starts to fade over time, age and lifestyle are the main culprits.
Maybe your career has been in noisy construction. Maybe you've been to one too many rock concerts. Or maybe age is finally catching up with your eardrums. Regardless of the reason, we can help!
You've GOTTA HAVE these Things!
Hear Clear Sound Amplifiers are basically the equivalent to a BRAND NEW set of ears! Discreet and comfortable, they were developed with comfort and functionality in mind.
Comfortable AND Discreet!
The small receiver is about the size of a pager (remember those?), and the comfortable earbuds actually sit inside of your ear to ensure a comfortable fit without being obvious that you're wearing something.
Go ahead - clip the receiver onto your hip. Or put it in your pocket. Once these thing are in your ears, it's going to open up a whole new world of CLEAR HEARING!
Simple to Use - AMAZING RESULTS!
DID YOU HEAR THAT?! Seriously, these are simple to use and yield unbelievably clear results. Even with perfect hearing, you wouldn't be able to clearly hear a conversation going on 60 feet away - but you can with these!
Stick the battery in, turn it on and you're all set! There's also an adjustable volume control depending on the level of intensity you need. So, let's just say you're at a bingo hall, or church - crank that volume up, and hear everything!
If you're just sitting home watching television or having dinner with your family, simply adjust the volume to accommodate your needs. That's it!
Perfect for Anyone - You Don't Need a Hearing Problem to Need These!

This is important! Even if you have "20/20" hearing, it's guaranteed that you'll find a use for these! Here's just a small sampling of people who could use the Hear Clear Sound Amplifiers:

College Students: If you've ever sat in a huge lecture hall, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
It's kinda hard to hear the professor when you're in an auditorium the size of a football field!

Church Goers and Bingo Players: Really, any extracurricular activity that lands you in an auditorium type setting. Even a movie theater! Whether you're hard at hearing or not, if you're too far away from the action, you won't be able to hear!

International Spies...Well OK - this is just an example; but if you've ever wanted to discreetly hear a conversation going on oh, say 60 feet away...just put these on and adjust the volume!

ANYONE With Hearing Problems: Naturally, that's who these were made for! Keep these with you at all times and pop 'em in when you need to. You'll be BLOWN AWAY by the clarity, comfort and quality!

Comes in a Two Pack - An INSANE Value!

Buy today, and you're not just getting ONE set - you're getting TWO for the price of one! We searched high and low to find this deal, and it's only good for a limited time! So if you're having any trouble at all hearing, or if you'd just like to be able to hear better in ordinary circumstances - these are EXACTLY what you need!

So with that said, for today only, this two pack of amazing Hear Clear Sound Amplifiers can be yours for just $12.97 with FREE US SHIPPING included!

PS: These also make a GREAT GIFT that ANYONE will enjoy, so why not order two sets? Give the gift of hearing not only to yourself, but your friends and family too! Act quickly though, because they'll be gone in a flash!

Computers 101
Charles from Olivet, MI writes:
A number of years ago, we put my mother’s diary on floppy discs using IBM Display Write. Is there any way to convert these floppies to a Microsoft program that will read them?
Hi, Charles.  That’s a great question that prompted me to go out and do some research, because the Display Writer, IBM’s old word processing machine, has been out of my mind since the last time that I used one in the eighties.

Here’s what my research has told me: The Display Writer saved files in one of several formats; .rtf, .doc, .fft, .rft or .dca.  The good news is that if the files are saved in .rtf or .doc format, then Notepad, Wordpad, Word and Open Office Writer should be able to open them.  They won’t maintain the formatting, though, and may have some junk (that’s a technical term) that you may have to delete, but you won’t have to recreate the entire document.
If they are in one of the other file formats, then there are a couple of things that you can try.  The easiest test to see if you’ll be able to open them without converting them would be to try to open them in Notepad.  Notepad is your best bet because it basically reads the straight ASCII text without any formatting.  In order to try this, open your notepad and click “file” then “open” like you would any document.  Then you have to play around a little.  First, change the file type in the lower right hand corner from .txt to “all files.”

Next, I’m going to suggest that you change the encoding.  But before you do that, try whatever the default on yours is (mine is Ansi, but I don’t know if that’s universal).

If your default doesn’t work, then try opening it with the other encoding types and see what happens.  If this works, you will have a LOT of junk to clear out, and you’ll still have to reformat it.
If either of these methods work, save it as a text document and open it in Word or Open Office Writer to do your formatting.
There is one more trick that you can try if neither of these work, and that is to use the Microsoft file converter.  Instructions for that can be found here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office-2003-resource-kit/office-converter-pack-HA001151358.aspx.
Hopefully this helps.

iPhone Calendar Sync: Syncing Outlook and Google to the iPhone
In my last article I showed you how to synchronize your personal Google calendar and your work Outlook calendar.  This article will show you how to bring the synchronized calendars onto your iPhone.
Unfortunately, just as I sat down to write this article, I noticed that my Google calendar, which had been set up as a Google account in the Mail, Contacts, and Calendar settings, stopped importing.  I suspect it had to do with my recent upgrade to iOS 5.  However, blessings often come in frustrating surprises and I am happy to say that not only was I able to fix the problem, I also learned additional ways to complete the process.
Follow the steps below to bring your Google and Outlook calendars onto your iPhone in one process.
1.  On your phone, go to Settings.

Q:
What’s the proper name for the little mouse pointer?

A:
The slanted arrow that moves on the screen when you move the mouse can be called a “cursor“, although some might argue that technically only the blinking line in DOS can be called that. C’mon, get with the 21st century! For the average person, the terms “pointer” and “cursor” are interchangeable.

The cursor may change into a small hand (when you come across a link)

Today's Feature
Turn Off Windows Aero for Performance

http://imgsrv.worldstart.com/ct-images/6697-video-screenshot.jpg

Windows 7 is certainly pretty, and Aero makes those open desktop windows look even better. But all that pretty takes up computing resources.

If you’ve installed Windows 7 on an older machine, or if you just want your computer to run more efficiently, there are two ways that you can reduce your graphics features. If you combine these methods, you can free up your graphics card to work faster in applications or games.

ImageSplitter
ImageSplitter is an awesome website for the basic things you might need to do to an image you’ve uploaded. You can resize/convert, split, or crop an image.  It is very easy to use, so much so that I found myself quite impressed.
How does it work? Well you begin by uploading the image you want to edit to the site. Just click Browse button to select an image from your computer, and then click the blue Upload Image to upload it to the site. Now that you have an image uploaded you can edit it on one of three tabs.
By default your picture will load on the Convert and Resize tab where you can resize the image by changing the values in the width and height fields then click the blue Resize Image button  which will prompt you to save or open the image. Or you can convert it by selecting the file type you want from the drop down box that reads jpeg and the clicking the resize button and deciding where to save the image. The file conversion options are jpeg, bmp, gif, png, and ico. Do you need to convert and resize an image? Well you can do both at the same time by editing both fields and then clicking the blue Resize Image button.
Would you rather split an image? I feel like this is the fanciest option of the three. I don’t know how often people need to split images, but if you do they have provided a very easy way to do it here.  After your image uploads you can click on the Split Image tab to switch to the form to split the image.  You can change value of the rows and number field to create the number of rows and columns you want, and then click the blue Split Image button. It will then ask you if you want to save or open the file, just like the resize image section does.
The option I use the most is the Crop Image function.  Upload your photo and then click the Crop Image tab. Here you will see your image grayed out.  Drag your mouse over the part of the image you want a box will appear that shows the image clearly. Where the values for editing are in the other sections you’ll find the left, top, width, and height values for the image you are cropping, as well as a preview image. I find it easier to drag the crop box around on the image to get what I want than to enter values into the fields. Once you have the image the way you want it click the blue Crop Image button, and then save the image.
This site offers a wonderful and easy tool to use to resize, convert, crop, or even split images. And best of all it’s free! Check it out today!

Superior Fury
Sometimes landscape photography can get hazardous - and this was one of those times. This was taken while I was perched about 3 feet from the edge of a fairly steep cliff on the edge of Lake Superior. The wind snarled and the waves filled the air with a roar that had to be experienced to be believed. That's why I arrived early and...(More)
Star Trials Over Golden Canyon
This was created one cloudless night over Golden Canyon near Zabriskie Point, Death Valley. Most of the time, I really love getting some cool clouds at sunset, but when I'm stuck with a sky that's dull, boring and clear, that can only mean one thing - star trails!
