Tightening SCADA Security, and more...

SCADA is Vulnerable
SCADA is VulnerableThe sophisticated Stuxnet attack on Iran's nuclear facilities has been a wake-up call for computer security in general, but more specifically for industry. And it's brought sudden scrutiny to the security — or lack thereof — of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, programmable logic controllers, and other control systems. At a recent SCADA security symposium, researchers unveiled a string ofsecurity flaws in industrial control systems, ranging from vulnerability to arbitrary code execution, to privilege escalation and denial of service. While the number of vulnerabilities uncovered may be disturbing, the security focus should ultimately result in safer, more secure systems in the future.

Measurement Computing
HotMux Thermocouple Data Logger

DCC Corporation
Award Winning Temperature and Voltage Devices The award winning USB-2408 Seriesfrom Measurement Computing are 24-bit multifunction DAQ devices designed for highly-accurate voltage or temperature measurements. Each device features up to 16 single-ended/8 differential analog inputs and includes 8 digital I/O and two counter inputs. Users can now make highly-accurate, 24-bit measurements for under $600.
HotMux Thermocouple Data LoggerWhen low cost, ease-of-use, flexibility, and quality matter, choose DCC Corporation's HOTMUX Temperature Data Logger. The HotMux system is particularly designed to monitor thermocouple and other analog signals using digitizing eight channel modules and to display, print, and store data via an attached desk or laptop computer.

Taking the Measure of Sound and Vibration
Taking the Measure of Sound and VibrationDesigned for assignments like machine condition monitoring, audio testing, and noise, vibration, and harshness testing, the latest release of this sound and vibration measurement package adds a virtual instrument (VI) for vibration data logging. The instrument captures and records data from tachometers, accelerometers, proximity probes, and other sensor types. New application examples also help with swept-sine-wave analysis and impact testing.
HMI Upgrade
HMI UpgradeThe latest release of thishuman/machine interface softwareoffers simplified license management and software installation, strengthened security, and support for Microsoft virtualization technologies and remote desktop services. The software features real-time, distributed alarming, historical trending, and a template-based approach to creating user screens that speeds setup, enforces standards, and cuts configuration/initial setup costs.

Oscilloscope Module
Oscilloscope ModuleAs an alternative to a dedicated oscilloscope, this 'scope module plugs into a desktop or laptop computer via USB and turns it into a two-channel, 100 MHz mixed-signal oscilloscope as well as a 16-channel logic analyzer. Software provided with the system offers the conventional XY display mode as well as color persistence and spectrum analyzer modes.
Getting from Analog to Digital
Getting from Analog to DigitalIf you're new to data acquisition — or just looking for a refresher — this archived video tutorial (25 min.) provides an introduction to analog-to-digital conversion topics, including a discussion of ADC types (voltage-to-frequency converter, successive approximation register, integrating dual-slope, sigma-delta). The tutorial also reviews ADC accuracy and resolution terms, calibration techniques, noise issues, and effective number of bits (ENOB).

High-flying Converter
High-flying ConverterThe sky isn't the limit for this radiation-hardened ADC. Designed for high-reliability space, aviation, and military applications, this 14-bit converter offers total-dose immunity levels as high as 100 kilorads. Sampling at up to 800 kS/s, it draws 150 mW of power, is packaged in a 28-lead flatpack, and operates across the full -55 C to +125 C military temperature range.
The March to Serial
The March to SerialDesigned with a JEDEC JESD204A high-speed serial interface, this dual 14-bit, 155 Msps ADC can meet the demanding data transfer rate requirements imposed by the high sampling rate, while dramatically cutting the required pin-count and package size, compared to comparable devices using parallel interfaces. Programming for setup and control is accomplished using a 3-wire SPI-compatible serial interface.

Conditioning Infrared
Conditioning InfraredThis pair of signal-conditioning ICs is dedicated to conditioning signals from infrared (IR) photodiodes. While the company's previous IR receivers contained both the photodiode and the conditioning circuitry in a single device, this newly-released pair work with discrete photodiodes, to provide the flexibility to support specialized applications.
Conditioning for Bridges
Conditioning for BridgesThese signal-conditioning ICs are targeted to applications involvingresistive sensing elements arranged in bridge configurations, such as thin-film or thick-film strain gauges and ceramic or silicon piezo-resistive sensors. They're likely to find use in pressure-sensing applications in industry, HVAC, and automobiles. Accuracy is ± 0.25% of full scale in the -25 C to +125 C temperature range.
