Mongolia's "MAD" Museum
Inspired by both the Mongolian desert and Manhattan's "MAD" domed museum design by Buckminster Fuller, the new Ordos Museum in Kang Ba Shi City, Inner Mongolia, China, is the result of six years of planning. Its space-age domed shell is meant to encapsulate the region's rich cultural history while providing a refuge for visitors from the encroaching city outside its doors. It's also meant to provide a core gathering place for the public.

Resurfacing Chicago's Roadways
Chicago is not only known for its wind, it's also known for its congested highways and byways. When a recent major resurfacing project required that these same roadways remain open during construction, not only to accommodate vehicular traffic, but also a popular road race, contractors had to enlist some reliable project management skills and some nifty equipment such as manhole safety ramps.

Shock Resistant Leveling and Layout
Measuring and leveling a commercial construction project requires accuracy. That accuracy is only as good as your level. Now a new generation of box beam levels promises to deliver both accuracy and toughness in the field. Armed with a magnified center vial and continuous marking surface it also comes equipped with heavy-duty plastic end caps for shock resistance.

Building "Reuse" Reconsidered
According to a new report published by Green LAB, an historic preservation think-tank, building reuse is almost always a more environmentally-friendly approach than demolition and building new. In fact, it can take upwards of 80 years for a new, energy-efficient building to overcome, through efficient operations, the climate change impacts created by its construction. One exception is when a lot of new materials are required to reconstruct or renovate; any economic or environmental advantages assumed to be associated with the project may be negated.
