'It's Electric' Down on the Farm
'It's Electric' Down on the FarmElectric power is replacing the traditional tractor power takeoff to run a new generation of farm implements now hitting the market. Developers say using electricity produced by engine-run generators results in fewer emissions with greater fuel efficiency. Electric implements also offergreater efficiencies compared to hydraulics. Control of electric motors produces a wide range of precise rotation speeds for more accurate application of agricultural materials with greater flexibility — with implement speeds independent of engine speed, resulting in greater engine power provided for traction.

Linear BrakeThis brake system can support or, as the case may be, reinforce the holding force of the linear motor, or in situations where the power is off, undertake the holding function whereby the holding position that has been taken up is maintained in a backlash-free manner.View more products...
Young Powertech Hydraulic Planetary Drives Available in a variety of motor connections and output option, this series of planetary speed reducersfrom Young Powertech, Inc. will prove very flexible. When coupled with orbital motors, radial piston, and axial piston motors, we can deliver a superior package at a lower cost.

Transverse Transmission Provides Compact Power
Transverse Transmission Provides Compact PowerXtrac developed a high-torque transmission for supercars in a compact package. Rather than a traditional longitudinal arrangement, engineers "stacked" the primary and secondary shafts in parallel, one below the other. The seven-speed version in the Pagani Huayra is powered by a V6 producing 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) peak torque. The gearbox configuration results in less mass behind the rear axle for better handling and performance.
Gearing Up for Mars

Gearing Up for MarsNASA's Curiosity rover will land (hopefully) on Mars in August, along with nearly 60 space-qualified gear components supplied by Forest City Gear. These high-strength, low-weight (made to AGMA 13 quality levels) gears include spur, helical, and spline types for gear drives, planetary gears, and wheels. The roving lab will determine if microbial life once, or currently, inhabits the Red Planet.

Plastic Bushings Beat Back Bronze
Plastic Bushings Beat Back BronzeIgus notes that plastic bushings, such as its iglide line shown in action, perform better than thicker bronze metal ones. The thinner plastic allows for better heat dissipation for a higher pressure-velocity value, which means greater loads and speeds. Heat rejection also produces less wear and longer life, and the bearing material is chemical resistant.
Belt Drives Beat Backlash
Belt Drives Beat BacklashThe benefits of Bell-Everman belt drives extolled in this video include zero backlash and the requirement for only a small motor to move large masses. The presentation demonstrates various drives and discusses the concepts of stiffness and "lost motion." The company's ServoBelt drives offerprecise rotary and linear positioning.

Wide Elastic Flat Belts for Roller Conveyors

Slewing Ring Bearing
Jiangsu Right Slewing Ring Co., Ltd.
Wide Elastic Flat Belts for Roller ConveyorsCombinations of wide elastic belts can move heavier loads. Flat belts have much more surface contact area than round belts so slipping is virtually eliminated. Dura-belt flat belts do not need belt tensioners. Available in any width up to 12 in. (305 mm).
Slewing Ring BearingSlewing ring bearings are widely used in engineering crane, metallurgy, mining machinery, wind power, light industry, and other areas of rotary bearing manufacturer. The product structure has single volleyball type, double row ball type, three rows of pillar type, cross roller type four major series slewing bearing. Learn more...

Brakes Adapt to On-/Off-road Operation
Brakes Adapt to On-/Off-road OperationMico's Full-Power Brake System provides ABS and traction control on multiwheeled vehicles operating either on- or off-road. Enhanced control improves stability and stopping distances in vehicles with up to eight wheels — each of which is independently governed. An available, secure CAN connection to a laptop allows viewing diagnostics and changing system parameters.
Shakin' on the Red Planet
Shakin' on the Red PlanetAboard NASA's Curiosity robot lab now on the way to Mars for a mid-summer landing are flexible couplings from Helical Products. One of these devices works in a vibrating sample acquisition and handling system at the end of a robotic arm. In gathering soil, vibrations enabled by the flexible coupling transport powders through the system.

Run Silent, Run Green
Run Silent, Run GreenThe U.S. Army's Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center has deployed the Clandestine Extended Range Vehicle (CERV) — a diesel-electric hybrid vehicle. Designed by Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies and the center, the CERV carries three soldiers and their gear and supports attack, rescue, and recovery missions while running quietly in all-electric mode for up to eight miles.
