Still doing some holiday shopping? If you're trying to find gifts for your favorite system administrator, check out our shopping guide to the
best gifts for IT professionals. We also show you how to decorate the server room with
Star Wars-themed paper snowflakes, which you can create while listening to your IT staff sing the
sysadmin's version of the 12 Days of Christmas.
In last week's Friday email newsletter, I asked readers to send me their tales of holiday IT woe. I've received dozens of emails so far, and I'd like to thank all of you who have submitted stories. We'll be posting some of the best tales in our
Holiday IT Horror Stories article, but here are some highlights: Reader Michael Cooper told me how he worked 40 hours straight without sleep through the Christmas break to resolve system failures, while G.V. Koteswara Rao described how he missed out on time with family by driving 300 miles to resolve an IT issue. And in one of my favorite emails, Sanjib Chakraborty explained that due to long IT work hours over a holiday he had fallen asleep "...on a desktop with power cable in hand."
