Other joints serve pizzas, luscious desserts and even an entire duck dinner to those in the know. What dishes have you discovered on the sly at your favorite restaurants?

Urban Union Open in Little Italy
Michael Shrader (ex NineEpic) cooks New American small plates (with seafood and vegetables outnumbering meats) at Urban Union, a rustic-chic Little Italy respite with a wood-burning oven in the open kitchen, a raw bar, craft cocktails and a few dozen by-the-glass selections (including six on tap); design highlights include exposed brick and distressed wood, a cozy bar, industrial light fixtures and a repurposed antique welding table where a ‘chef’s whim’ tasting menu is served communally. Novikov Brings Asian and Italian to Mayfair
Prolific Russian restaurateur Arkady Novikov’s first London foray is ambitious, tri-tiered Mayfair behemoth Novikov, comprised of a high-end Asian - decorated with all granite walls and natural wood - majoring on Chinese and Japanese dishes from a display of seafood and fresh market produce, and a bright, breezy Italian with a vaulted ceiling, suede-clad walls and prominent wood-fired oven; downstairs, there’s a dark lounge bar with esoteric decor, deep sofas and a chilled musical beat. Check out the menus after the jump.

It’s certainly proved popular, with a Covent Garden sib launched in 2010 and a cavernousGuildhall location joining the family last year. Here are Will’s views on the scene, and a sneaky insight into his future plans for the group...
